How to film a music video on your phone
By Con, founder of Music Wide Selfie · Updated 22 October 2026
Short answerPlay the track out loud while you perform so lip sync matches, film the whole song in several setups (wide, medium, close-up, a location or two), and edit by cutting between them on the beat.
Plan
- Two or three looks or locations.
- Wide, medium and close shots of each.
- A few B-roll shots: hands, details, places.
Perform
Play the song loudly from a speaker near the phone and perform the whole thing for every setup.
Edit
Lay the original track down first, line up each take by the start, then cut between angles on the beat.
Questions
Can I use slow motion?
Yes: play the song faster while filming in slow motion, so lip sync matches at normal speed.
