How to film an interview with one phone
By Con, founder of Music Wide Selfie · Updated 22 October 2026
Short answerFrame the guest, not yourself, with the phone near your shoulder so they look close to the lens. Use a mic for each person if you can, and record your questions again afterwards if needed. Dual-camera recording can capture both of you on supported iPhones.
Framing
Put the phone just beside your head. The guest looks at you, so their eyes land near the lens.
Sound
- A clip-on mic on the guest makes the biggest difference.
- A two-person wireless mic kit records both voices.
- Record a room tone: 10 seconds of silence for editing.
Both faces
On supported iPhones, dual-camera recording films the guest on the back camera and you on the front. Or film your questions afterwards as cutaways.
Questions
Should the guest look at the camera?
Usually not. Looking at the interviewer feels natural.
